Terminology inquiries in the field of the EU legislation (acquis communautaire)

Term search

In April 2009, the operation of an electronic multilingual database of terms, term combinations, keywords and key expressions in all 20 fields of the acquis in Bulgarian, English, French and German languages began. The access to this database is free, via the updated website of the Translation and Revision Centre (TRC).

The search of terms and term combinations in the electronic database can be carried out by keyword and by field of the EU legislation (acquis). Following the entry of the word or word combination searched, in Bulgarian (or in English), the translation into the other three languages shall appear. The initial volume of the terms included is 3 000, but it has been provided to update the database periodically by including new terms.

The terminological database is the result of the process of translation and revision of acts of the primary and secondary European Union legislation into Bulgarian, realised by the team of the Translation and Revision Centre regarding the accession of Republic of Bulgaria to the European Union.

The creation of this database has for purpose to support the officials from the central, regional and municipal administrations in their work with the specialised terminology of the EU legislation and in this regard, to contribute to a more effective use of the terms already agreed and established in the process of translation of the acquis.

The development of the multilingual electronic database was made within the Project of the Translation and Revision Centre “Enhancement of the knowledge and the awareness of the officials from the State administration to work with the European Union legislation” implemented under the Operational Programme “Administrative Capacity”, co-financed by the European Union through the European Social Fund.
